Introducing Sebastian Lux

 

Introducing, the latest addition to the Janikin Energy Team- Sebastian Lux, Head of Permanent Recruitment. Sebastian will be using his strong communication and problem solving skills- gained from 16 years of experience in the hospitality sector- to develop our presence in central Europe.

 

Prior to working in recruitment, you have 16 years of experience in the hospitality sector. How has your background in hospitality impacted your approach as a recruitment consultant?  

 

The most significant influence the hospitality sector had on my approach as a recruiter is the service mentality. Both industries are very similar in fact.

 

We are in a service industry where only an outstanding service and the extra mile will build a long lasting relationship. In hospitality it may be the regular customer who has been coming every Christmas over many years or regularly in the evenings for a drink. The drink or the meal is quite often only a side product of the actual service given – an honest human connection.

 

In many instances recruitment is very similar as we accompany project managers and companies through the life cycle of a project. We provide a service to people; may they be candidates looking for a new challenge or a role that fits their changing needs in life or a project manager who is excited about a task at hand.

 

Why did you choose a career in recruitment?  

 

I help people find the right job in a time when they need a change for whatever reason. Especially in perm recruitment, these are often life changing circumstances.

 

What has brought you to Janikin Energy?  

 

The personality and the approach of the team. Janikin is about going the extra mile for the clients and candidates that we support. Making money is obviously great but, providing manpower to engineering projects that will have a positive impact on society, is the aspect of my role that is truly fulfilling.

 

What do you hope to achieve during your time at Janikin Energy?  

 

Build up the permanent desk to an extent that we can connect the right candidates to the right projects not just locally, but across borders.

 

What has drawn you to permanent rather than contract recruitment?  

 

Contract recruitment can be much more short lived. Permanent recruitment is quite often changing people’s lives for many years to come. The moment you feel really good about what you do, is when your candidates are coming back to you saying “Thank you, you have really changed my work life for the better and made an impact.” The same of course goes for the company side when you keep talking to the stressed manager who needed help desperately and you got her/him just the right person and their work life suddenly improves to a point that they really enjoy it again just like on their first day.

 

Why are you interested in Renewables as a sector? And why Germany?  

 

Renewable Energies are making a more and more obvious difference in everyday life and by supporting  that change at the source, I feel as if I am doing good.

 

It goes without saying, I separate my garbage, reduce waste, switch off the light, capture rain water for the hot season and let my grass grow too long. But if my work can have a general benefit to society and the world we live in than even better!

 

Why Germany? Well, I am German,  I live in Europe and still go back a lot to visit friends and family. Already, I am being approached by many German companies and as I always say, “Here to help.”

 

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?  

 

I would very much enjoy reading a good book and drinking a nice glass of wine whilst sitting at the fire. – Well, right after finishing that renovation work at home. 😊
